Google Site Maps

I thought I knew what the deal was with Google Site Maps.

Up until this morning…

While I was cleaning up my email inbox, I came across the following message from Dynamic Site Builder, where I host my business websites and several of my clients websites…

Learn how to improve your Google Ranking- Submit Your Site to Google Sitemaps Today!

You and every website owner want to improve their ranking on Google but most people have no idea where to begin. Google Sitemaps is a powerful starting point that helps you ensure that all of your site’s pages are successfully crawled by Google search engine bots. Plus, it gives you useful information about your site that can help you develop a strategy to improve your ranking.

Benefits to you:

    · Submitting to Google Sitemaps gives you automatic submission to Google.

    · By providing a list of all the webpages on your site, Google can inform and direct their crawlers, speeding up their discovery and addition to their index. This is especially useful for dynamic content or pages, which aren’t easily found by crawlers by simply following links.

    · If a page on your site isn’t listed, Google Sitemaps provides the reasons why so you can avoid the same problems in the future.

    · If you add pages to your site, you can add the new pages to your list on Google Sitemaps to help speed up their discovery by crawlers.

    · Google Sitemaps also provides you with valuable information and statistics about your site, including what keywords visitors used to find your site, who your referrers are, etc. This will help you to tailor your web marketing strategy.

How it works:

1. Click on “Manage Pages” -> “Power Tools.”
2. Click on “Add a Google Sitemap to Your Site.”

Disclaimer: Results vary. Any advice regarding these features is made generally and should be used at your own discretion.

And, after following the steps, I realized I actually had very little knowledge about just how powerfull the Google Site Map option is. I enabled it on www.QueticoInternetMarketing.com and www.Atikokankarate.com through the Dynamic Site Builder admin system within about 3 minutes for each site. It was easy.

Now I’m able to login to my Google Account (http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps ) and review exactly when and what pages are spidered by the googlebot, and a great deal more information about how Google sees my website.

Next, I applied my newfound knowledge to also build Google Maps for my WordPress Blogs!! As you may know, I’m a great big fan of the unmached blogging software from www.wordpress.org – and the astonishing list of WordPress Plugins that can supercharge your Blog.

I’ll certainly be watching the changes in how many pages Google has indexed of my sites with www.marketleap.com… and I’ll report the results here.

  • Does your Tourism Site have the Google Site Map feature enabled and verified?
  • Can you login to your Google account to see the data?
