I’d like to thank martinlock for highlighting this important point:
The ranking in Alexa.com serves as a criteria for the Webmasters, advertisers and ad networks as a gauge to determine the worth of a link on your website.
He points out a short list of the top Alexa Ranking Web 2.0 Sites – a very important measurment of where you should spend your efforts attaining a link FROM.
But at the same time, there is great value in having a presence in the smaller sites. While these sites may be too niche-specific to garner enough traffic for a healthy Alexa Ranking, these smaller groups may convert to view your message more consistently – and it’s also easier to dominate all conversations on your topic in a small social network.
They all have value – but start with the BIG players, and work deeper from there.
Thanks martinlock!
