Yep, it’s true. Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew.
Especially when I’m promoting emerging products or services that I’m still sorting out.
Actually, I bit into something so good,
I haven’t been able to do very much client work for 6 weeks.
I’m spending all my time learning how to teach building relationships
with potential clients using Social Media.
Aside from the usual summer visitors and a few weeks travel, I’ve been absorbed in the research and development, building the business case studies I need to have in place before I can feel comfortable charging people for the services I’m now promoting.
Here’s what’s been keeping me busy:
1. Before I can sell a service to a client, it has to work for me.
2. I can’t/won’t sell last year’s technology
3. Tourism Marketing technology has recently completely changed.
Which – put me into a big R&D phase to figure out
- what works best,
- how long does it take me to set up,
- and how can I teach you to use it for next summer…
Case Study #1 -
I registered my name, douglaslampi – on all the social media sites and setting up www.douglampi.com with all the social media connections I recommend my clients have set up for their Tourism Service.
Case Study #2 -
I registered, myshotokan everywhere and did minimal changes to www.myshotokan.com, as I might do for a client with an existing site, with minimal changes to the site…
Case Study #3 -
Now I’m being cocky and seeing what happens when I target the phrase “Tourism Marketing”, and “Tourism Internet Marekting” which has the best Search Engine Marketing experts’ websites at the top…
At this stage,
- I’ve gathered experience,
- organized what I’m selling, and why,
- experimented with how long it takes me to complete -
- created a presentation outline to introduce it (attached)
and now I’ll
- starting promote and implement the new services
- Gathering and sharing data on it’s effectiveness
- Prepare How-To Workshops to teach easy social media strategies
Through the winter, I’ll gather feedback from tourism business owners on the best way of teaching the strategies so it’s easy to understand.
While I build on these strategies, you can participate and follow along – Lurk, if you will, and see how it’s working for me.
