Was that an eMail? Was that an instant message? Is that a Blog? Or is it a team document production tool?

It is all of those things – and much more. Created by the developers of Google Maps, Waves WILL provide a fundamental change in the way communications are organized – in your very near future.

Will The Web Ever Stop Changing?

eMail was invented some 40 years ago, and remains the most common means of communicating online. That’s a fantastic product life-span, but we have all experienced the limitations and difficulties of a long conversation via email, especially when new people are added to the conversation. Instant Message services and Twitter have become a Killer App because of the new way you can communicate – but soon, we will forget about Gmail, Google Docs and we will ALL be speaking about Waves.

Ideal For Working With Organizations

Finally, we will all have a central place where a Board of Directors can all be kept abreast of the development stages of a project – without ballooning the project costs in endless meetings and time-consuming email trails.

Google Semantically Related Words & Latent Semantic Indexing Technology

Many people have been noticing a wide shuffle in search relevancy scores recently.

Some of those well in the know attribute this to latent semantic indexing. Even if they are not using LSI, Google has likely been using other word relationship technologies for a while, but recently increased its weighting.

How Does Latent Semantic Indexing Work?

Latent semantic indexing allows a search engine to determine what a page is about outside of specifically matching search query text.

For example, a page about Apple computers will likely naturally have terms such as iMac or iPod on it.

Stay ahead of the pack – naturally.

www.compareyourkeywords.com

How do I Know What Words are Related?

There are a variety of options to know what words are related to one another, for instance, you may wish to analyze the backlinks of high ranking pages for your target phrases…

I’m really excited by work these days.

It’s more fun than a candy store to see how quickly I can create top 10 rankings in Google.

The latest addition to my growing fleet of sites that are dominating searches on currently running Sport Shows in 2008 is…

www.moosehuntbook.com/moosehunting/

Currently the site is missing it’s database of over 700 Lodges and Outfitters in Northwestern Ontario. The Directory of Moose Hunting Guides and Outfitters will be integrated into the CanadianFishingBook series of websites and blogs that already control over 7000 pages indexed in Google. That means the List of Moose Hunting Lodges recommended by MooseHuntingBook.com will be indexed in a matter of hours from the time of this post.

Like all new sites I create, there’s something new and improved – some solution arising from a previous problem has been added to overcome some weakness or add new functionality… and MooseHuntBook.com is no exception. This project includes a Widget Ready Three Column WordPress Theme with the NexGen Photo Gallery plug-in. This is one of those projects that woke me up at 4 AM with a new idea that just had to be implemented – right now. Put the coffee on and wake up the dog! I’m anticipating that Google Images will be ALL OVER this website in a matter of days – sending unusual loads of traffic for the very popular searches on moose pictures.

What a great job I have! I’m very grateful for the clients who want exposure for these topics, and who make this life of research possible for me!

First off – Happy Holidays – hope you all get to see your families for Christmas.

It’s been a busy time in the DougLampi Web-Sphere!

After a compliled effort – pushing distractions aside – four new website upgrades/releases in the past week.

I am most delighted with the updates to www.kashabowieoutposts.com website and particularily the Search Engine Friendly updates to the 2007 Fly in Fishing Photo Gallery. While laborious to put together, it is a pleasure to view – for people – AND for Google!

Based on some research with Google Trends, I embarked upon a cool experiment with the latest version of WordPress, a widget ready wordpress theme, several amazingly powerful – but always free – WordPress plugins – and some custom cascading style sheet updates… and I was able to re-create a small hobby site that I first built about a year ago with my daughter in mind. www.adoptawebkinz.com.

The next two sites are part of a series of five new sites that promote fishing in Canada. The Fishing Lodge Directory compiled in the unique information management system, The Brain, has been updated in a number of important ways – and the results have been immediate! First, I created the CSS and page template from scratch – giving me full control of the layout. Next the .html pages were converted to .php to enable two powerful text randomizer scripts and an image randomizer script. Then I included an RSS feed from the various fishing topic blogs that I manage around the Web 2.0 realm. Finally, I updated the unique Peel Away corner banner to promote the advertisers in the Fishing eBook Series of sites.

The result is about 2000 dynamic, search engine friendly pages for each site! Just in time for the Fishing Lodge Sport Show Season.

www.troutbook.com and www.canadianfishingbook.com have nearly completed their first major overhaul – with the companion sites walleyebook, smallmouthbassbook and northernpikebook slated for the same TLC over the next couple days… and all the loose threads on all five sites over the next 8 or 9 days.

I was recently working with a Tourism Outfitter Client who asked me if there were a way to find out if people from Michigan and Iowa used different search terms than, say, people from Ontario, when they were searching for the same product or service.

Together, we reviewed two important Google Tools – and the results were so important, I wanted to share them here.

Every Tourim Operation today knows how important, and how cost effective Internet Marketing can be – especially when compared to Sport Shows – and I think every Fishing Lodge Owner should be spending a few hours each week in the off season using these tools.

For example, we were able to see a three year graph of the number of seaches for ‘ontario fishing trip’, or what ever phrase entered. It is of no suprize, and no comfort, to visually see the steady declining trend of searches for “fishing lodge”, “fly in fishing”, and many other related phrases.

Give it a go yourself: http://trends.google.com

While the Google Trends Tool is great – you have to know what keywords you want to study… perhaps there are related phrases that you have overlooked…

The Google Keyword Suggestion Tool is another fantastic source of marketing information.

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Once you enter your generic keyword phrase, the Keyword Suggestion Tool provides a healthy list of related phrases, along with relative search volume bar for you to consider. TIP: use the Google Keyword Suggestion Tool when creating a new article about your product or service – make sure you use popular phrases throughout your content!

Cheers

Now that I’ve created a new Gmail account as the central email archive centre for my new Mini-Net, the second step is, well, tedious.

It doesn’t take long, really, even if you are on dail up. I estimate it will take me about two and a half hours, including the time I take to make notes here on what I’m doing. Without the note taking, you could likely run through this process in 90 minutes – and your first pages will be indexed in Google in just hours after that.

Before you begin Step Two, you must have your ideal keywords and search phrases ready.

Learn more about keyword selection at www.compareyourkeywords.com

First Stop – now that I’m logged into my new gmail account, I want to set up a few other Google Tools that will help me build, keep amazing stats on traffic – and even earn a dollar or two on the side.

I click on my services link within Gmail – along the top near the center… on the next page, under Try somthing new, I click on more >>… and then click on the link to Blogger. Using my password again to sign in, and begin the three step process to create a blog. The Display Name and Blog Url that I choose were based on my target keyword phrases: Canadian Fishing.

(for example) http://canadianfishingbook.blogspot.com/ After creating and posting a short article stuffed with my initial set of keywords, I’m ready for the next stop:

Next Stop – www.wordpress.com

Setting up a Blog at wordpress.com is an important advantage in getting your new content crawled and indexed by the search engines – largely because of internal tag linking.

What is a Tag?
A Tag is a word or a short phrase that you can add with your posting – essentially, a keyword that represents the content in your post. Using WordPress Tags correctly in your posts can result in an almost instant indexing by the search engines.

Here’s what happens: Let’s use the Tag ”Global Warming” Each Tag has it’s own page, and every user of a wordpress.com blog gets a link from that page when they post an entry with the tag “Global Warming”. Some Tags are very popular – they have a high Google Page Rank. The link to your post may not last very long on the most popular Tag pages, but there is a huge and growing set of Tag pages with PR of 4, 5 and 6 that will maintain a link to your blog for weeks at a time. This is a great benefit because the search engines are continually scanning these Tag pages and indexing anything they link to – this means that your post will be indexed much more quickly when you understand how to use the Tags.

At WordPress.com, I created http://walleyebook.wordpress.com/ – in the first post I included some Tags that I want to target, and some related phrases. After I completed the post, I clicked on the Tags, followed to the Tag page and reviewed the Tag Clowd. The Tag Clowd is created as a agrigate of related tags. As I clicked around in the related tags, I made note of those popular Tag pages that already have established Google PageRank. I followed backward to Blogs on a similar topic to my own, and, well – I copy their best Tags in an original post on my own Blog. In a very sort time, I have links to my Blog from a range of related pages – and I get indexed… FAST.

Another Advantage of a free WordPress.com Blog – the Widgets.
Now that I’ve linked myself into my community with the Tags, I’m going to use the Widgets to quickly add an RSS feed with news articles about my topic…

Finally I flesh out my new Blog by adding links to my other related Blogs… and visiting other related blogs to make relevant comments on the conversations already underway about my subject… continuing the process of building a Mini-Net of web pages.

A few months ago I purchased a domain name for $15 and set up a hosting account. Then I took literally 15 minutes to add an Amazon Store link – and the site was complete. I added one link to the site – and – entirely forgot about it.

Recently I found that this effortless site was MAKING SALES!

Everywhere I look, I see this product – even the newspapers are building the hype.

As my Dad and I were talking about the phenomenom (sp), he mentioned that I should take a bit of time to beef up the marketing of this site…

So, the past few mornings I’ve taken an hour each day to create a mini-net of free website blogs to boost the traffic to my little sales site.

Then, finally, today I added Google Analytics, Google Ads, and a small set of 32 simple pages to the sales site that will help me target the names of each of the products.

Project total time – about 6 hours.

Main Sales site – www.adoptawebkinz.com

Scroll to the bottom of the page to see links to the free website blogs that are helping me target my ideal keywords in the search engines. This mini-net of websites are easy to create – and they really work.

NEXT – I’ll create a monthly search ranking report and I’ll start monitoring the results. As data comes in, I’ll add to this online business case study.

My long-term goal is to help others earn extra income each month by owning a website of their own!

More soon – Doug.
