In it’s early days, WordPress was almost exclusively used for Blogging. Over years of continual development, WordPress is released as a publishing platform, not as a blogging platform. More and more small businesses like fishing lodges, outfitters and hunting camp owners are benefiting from the unmatched SEO and Social Media integration provided by WordPress For Tourism Marketing.

Wikipedia reports that, in 2009, WordPress won the best Open Source CMS Award, and in 2010, WordPress has won the Hall of Fame CMS category.

Web Technology Surveys reports that WordPress is used by 14.0% of all the websites they surveyed, that is a content management system (CMS) market share of 54.6%.

Social Media and WordPress For Tourism Marketing

Social Media works seamlessly with WordPress For Tourism Marketing. Why is this important? Because Social Media has created a changed consumer-scape for all business sectors, not just travel and tourism.

National Tourism Week Social Media Seminar

“Visit Bucks County has been embracing the revolutionary changes that have impacted the tourism and hospitality industry by speaking directly and interacting with the people that fuel our economy,” said Jerry Lepping, executive director of Visit Bucks County. “Hosting this seminar during National Travel & Tourism Week was the perfect time to encourage the importance of this transition as well as the impact travel has on our economy.”

Rural Tourism Marketing Recommends

The Wharton Internet Marketing Blog sums up the benefits of WordPress for Tourism Marketing: At a recent workshop, Joanne Steele from Rural Tourism Marketing recommended that business owners make sure their websites are built using WordPress.

Using WordPress As A Content Management System (CMS)

Evoke Design writes “As WordPress has developed into version 3, it is slowly becoming a top choice for CMS solutions for designers and developers. It provides great flexibility and it’s easy to work with. This means that WordPress has moved on a long way from being heavily biased on a personal blogging system.”

9 Great Reasons to Use WordPress as a CMS

Today, WordPress is released as a publishing platform, not as blogging software – which means it’s even better to use as a CMS.

Canadian Tourism Internet Marketing

In this short video I demonstrate how tourism operators can get more benefit out of their blogging efforts if they take the time to include a link back to their own website from within the first couple sentences of each new blog post.

Facebook For Tourism Marketing

I logged into Facebook today and I wanted to share a few tips for tourism operators and resort owners who are blogging, and who may be starting to use Facebook for Tourism Marketing.

When I logged in this morning I see a notification here that there has been some new stuff posted to the WalleyeBook Fan Page . This is part of the network of CanadianFishingBook.com websites that pull in blog posts from fishing lodges in Canada. It search engine optimizes the content, and then re-distributes it across a range of social media websites in our network.

As you can see, people who ‘like’ WalleyeBook on Facebook, they get a notification right in their news feed when they login when ever there is a new update on walleyeBook.

Facebook For Tourism Marketing

Now here’s what I wanted to share with you:

When you make a post to your blog, be sure to hyperlink one of the keyword phrases in the first couple sentences and link back to your own blog. That way, each time you do a blog post and it is syndicated across the CanadianFishingBook.com network of social medial sites, you get links back to your website with the keywords you want from a whole bunch of different places.

And it’s great to get links back to your website right from Facebook For Tourism Marketing – that’s a very big powerhouse.

Here is an example of how your information is syndicated out and how people see it in a number of different places where they would never have seen it before.

And – some important search engine optimization tips on how to link back to your own website to give yourself traffic and search engine optimization juice!

Facebook For Tourism Marketing

Passive Destination Marketing or Proactive Social Marketing?

In this example I show how the CanadianFishingBook.com Social Media Network helps a Canadian Fishing Lodge Owner get published across the internet. By carefully syndicating your RSS feed, our network can provide instant traffic to your website and help you establish top search engine rankings by giving lodge owners a way to directly control their off-site linking strategies.
Hello, thanks for tuning in.

I want to quickly share with you an SEO tool that I’ve been using for years, that you can now get for free.

This tool that I’m going to demonstrate to day is called Optispider, and later I’ll do a small screen recording of Optilink to show you how that works.

Optispider is really powerful and I pulled up some information on a site that I’ve been doing a little bit SEO work and organizing with.

I pulled up the software a little earlier and ran it on my website.

This is really easy to use, you open up the software, input your email address in the setup are to make the software work properly.

Enter Your Domain And Hit Start

And I entered this – up to 50 pages to spider, then I hit start – that’s it. After a few minutes the information starts to come in.

I really like to look at the information on links. It goes to every single page of my website and reads all the links on that page. So if I click on ‘target’ here and start looking through this big long list of all the links from within all the pages of my site – I can start to see a pattern in that many different pages are all linking to one page with the exact same link text all the way along.

As I go through I can start to see patterns of how the links on my site are using keywords and when I find something like this – this is an example of where I want to put a ‘nofollow’ attribute on that hyperlink so that the search engines don’t see this – so that I don’t waste precious link juice by pointing google to pages that are irrelevant to the search engines. They are relevant for marketing, but not for the search engines.

The next thing I like to look at is the link-counts – the number of onsite and the number of outbound links, the number of inbound links to each page. This shows that I have a lot of onsite links to this page, but I need some more inbound links to this page…

As I go through this whole list, I can start to see which one is likely doing well in the search engines just by the links that are running in and out of that page.

Another great piece of information is to see the titles and details on all the pages that were just crawled.

Compare – this lets me determine how close my site-wide reputation matches my sitewide topic. The more they match, the better tightly focused my site is and the better it will rank for the keywords that I’m most tightly focused on.

When I click on Compare this shows me the posts that are right dead-on, great matches for each other, which ones could use a little tweeking, and which posts, by their title and tags, could be altered a little bit to focus more on the proper site-wide reputation

Even if you are not a webmaster, picking up a copy of Optispider and running it on your different websites can give you a Goolges eye view and see how the search engines are really viewing your website.

This gives me some clear ideas about what I can do next to improve the focus of this website and get the exact targeted traffic that I want for it.

That’s it for this first Tourism Marketing Screenr cast – Tips where you can market your own website – this is for the do-it-yourselfer.

Thanks for tuning in,

There is nothing else in web marketing that can compare to the long term advantages of building links.

Step One – We create A Series Of Search Engine Optimized Articles About Your Business.

Our Online Traffic Specialist visits your website – takes the content of your website, and reorganizes/optimizes it around your best keyword phrases. Then, he creates several custom-made articles that are carefully embedded with a rotating selection of search engine friendly links to your website pages.

Step Two – Getting The Word Out

Phase One: Your Search Engine Optimized articles (with relevant links to inner pages of your website) are slowly distributed across an out-sourced network of over 13,000 established blogs! This creates a natural growth of more and more one-way links pointing to your website!

Phase Two: Your Search Engine Optimized articles are slowly and methodically bookmarked throughout our network of over 13,000 social medial profiles and social bookmarking sites! This natural pattern of social voting, provides credibility to your articles, and over time, helps to broaden the awareness of your brand, boost your search engine rankings, and establish your main website as an Authority Website in your niche!

Step Three – Monthly Link Reports… and your VITAL Follow-Up.

Each month you will receive a complete list of all the places your article is posted, and all the social bookmarking profiles where your articles are linked.

You can tremendously increase the cumulative benefit of all your new links by ‘Commenting’ on the posted articles, by ‘liking’ the bookmarks, and participating in other social options that help add credibility to the new links pointing to your website.

Read more about our new Professional Link Development Service!

Nothing else compares to the advantages of links!

What is Google Wave?

Was that an eMail? Was that an instant message? Is that a Blog? Or is it a team document production tool?

It is all of those things – and much more. Created by the developers of Google Maps, Waves WILL provide a fundamental change in the way communications are organized – in your very near future.

Will The Web Ever Stop Changing?

eMail was invented some 40 years ago, and remains the most common means of communicating online. That’s a fantastic product life-span, but we have all experienced the limitations and difficulties of a long conversation via email, especially when new people are added to the conversation. Instant Message services and Twitter have become a Killer App because of the new way you can communicate – but soon, we will forget about Gmail, Google Docs and we will ALL be speaking about Waves.

Ideal For Working With Organizations

Finally, we will all have a central place where a Board of Directors can all be kept abreast of the development stages of a project – without ballooning the project costs in endless meetings and time-consuming email trails.

May Long

I went and enjoyed the May long weekend at a remote cabin on the lake shore. You can picture the rustic Canadian wilderness – no running water, a woodstove to keep the chill off, a path to the biffy out the front door – and no internet access. It was great!

Back to my computer – Twitter First

After nearly 96 hours offline, the first thing I check is my number of Twitter followers. I reply to direct messages, then I return any @replies. While I’m working with twitter, I take another ten minutes to follow the daily routines to continue building my Twitter Follower List.

Downloads and Subscribers

Next I checked my email subscriber lists to make sure the numbers are still growing. Presently, I’m not running an email-subscriber-boost campaign, but when I’m managing such a promotion, I include a close review of sign-up conversion rates and also review the geographic location of the new subscribers. Watch for a video of email subscriber analysis, or take a test drive of Aweber.

Visitor Stats Detailed Review

Third, I complete my daily review of my website visitor stats. Each project has it’s set of keywords that it targets for search engine traffic, and an ideal target footprint of referral traffic that it is trying to attain. I use Google Analytics and recommend it to you – even if you have additional visitor tracking on your site.

Reply To EMail

Now that I have a handle on the marketing results for the weekend, I turn my attention to email replies and important newsletters.

Create a Blog Post

After chatting to my Twitter friends, reviewing stats and replying to email, it’s easy to come up with ideas for a new blog post. A new blog post that will be helpful to my intended audience, while at the same time, bringing better focus toward my ideal keywords.

Follow My Own Advice

In an earlier post, I set up a social marketing campaign I was to follow as a means of building the Fishing-Trip-Related search engine rankings and traffic I was aiming for.

My Aim?

To demonstrate that YOU can gain immediate and lasting exposure for your fishing or hunting travel-related business – by blogging.

These results are very significant:

As you’ll see by the keyword phrases in the screenshots below – this is very targeted exposure.

These results were achieved in less than two months – and you CAN do the same!

Your Website Is A Business Asset

An original blog is an asset that increases the value of your business – it is not just another marketing cost.

Find out more about how I can help you leverage your daily activities to increase the traffic to your website, to increase your bookings – and to increase the re-sale value of your business – with live, real-time Blog Coaching.

New Opportunity

Yesterday, Google announced Rich Snippets and new Search Options.

These big changes represent a real opportunity for websites who quickly update and upgrade their code to take advantage of the new information that Google is using in their ranking results.

Google States: By incorporating standard annotations in your pages, you not only make your structured data available for Google’s search results, but also for any service or tool that supports the same standard. As structured data becomes more widespread on the web, we expect to find many new applications for it, and we’re excited about the possibilities.

Google Annotations and Structured Data

ReadWriteWeb reports – Google is using structured data open standards such as microformats and RDFa to power the rich snippets feature.

Google is now ‘inviting’ publishers to update and mark up their HTML with the structured data open standards, and is providing webmasters with documentation.

Now Is The Time

It’s time to update your website – or risk being dropped to the 10th pages in the rankings.
