Using Google Tools for Marketing

by Doug on November 24, 2007

I was recently working with a Tourism Outfitter Client who asked me if there were a way to find out if people from Michigan and Iowa used different search terms than, say, people from Ontario, when they were searching for the same product or service.

Together, we reviewed two important Google Tools – and the results were so important, I wanted to share them here.

Every Tourim Operation today knows how important, and how cost effective Internet Marketing can be – especially when compared to Sport Shows – and I think every Fishing Lodge Owner should be spending a few hours each week in the off season using these tools.

For example, we were able to see a three year graph of the number of seaches for ‘ontario fishing trip’, or what ever phrase entered. It is of no suprize, and no comfort, to visually see the steady declining trend of searches for “fishing lodge”, “fly in fishing”, and many other related phrases.

While the Google Trends Tool is great – you have to know what keywords you want to study… perhaps there are related phrases that you have overlooked…

The Google Keyword Suggestion Tool is another fantastic source of marketing information.

Once you enter your generic keyword phrase, the Keyword Suggestion Tool provides a healthy list of related phrases, along with relative search volume bar for you to consider. TIP: use the Google Keyword Suggestion Tool when creating a new article about your product or service – make sure you use popular phrases throughout your content!
